01.The thesis

The problem

Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana sign with ECDSA, which Shor's algorithm breaks, recovering private keys from public keys already on-chain. "Harvest-now, decrypt-later" makes it a present-tense risk. NIST has standardized the replacement (FIPS 203/204/205) and is driving migration.

The solution

COGNITUM is post-quantum from genesis, account security on ML-DSA65 (NIST FIPS 204), with SLH-DSA (FIPS 205) and ML-KEM-768 (FIPS 203). No ECDSA anywhere in account security. Quantum-resistant by design.

02.Why incumbents can't just migrate

The harvested-key tail is permanent

Every address that has ever spent already exposed its public key on-chain, adversaries are recording those today. Adding PQ signatures later protects nothing already exposed. COGNITUM never used a classical key.

Migration is a multi-year coordination problem

Retrofitting means hard forks and re-tooling thousands of wallets, exchanges, and custodians, plus getting holders to act. Value that must be quantum-resistant today has nowhere clean to go.

PQ-from-genesis is a stronger guarantee

For long-lived assets, bonds, titles, multi-decade contracts, records, the signature must still be valid in 20-30 years. Only a chain that was never classical can promise that without an asterisk.

Honestly staged

COGNITUM is a live single-operator testnet today with self-auditable on-chain integrity and a full feature suite. It is not decentralized yet, one operator runs the node. Independent validators, an external third-party audit, and mainnet are the published next phases. We tell you precisely what is and isn't done.

Estimates for when a quantum computer can break ECDSA range widely, from a few years in aggressive forecasts to ~10-15+ years in mainstream ones, with progress accelerating. You don't need to know the date: a shorter timeline makes native post-quantum security urgent, while a longer one still means assets signed today must outlive the threat. COGNITUM is built to win in either case. "Quantum-resistant," not "quantum-proof."
